Hello! こんにちは!

Hello and greetings from Japan! I am Steven Balsomico, the Japanese teacher at the high school. Myself and ten shaler students have come to Japan through the Laurasian Institution's New Perspectives Japan program to learn more about Japanese language and culture, and over the next ten days, the students will be posting here about their experiences on the other side of the world.  We will be visiting Tokyo for the first three days, then moving to a small town called Joyo in the center of the country, followed by three days in Japan's traditional capital, Kyoto.  Thank you for joining us as the students learn about a different culture, a different language, and perhaps most importantly, eat the most delicious food imaginable.

Today we arrived in Japan after an almost 20 hour long trip. Students were exhausted but excited, and while waiting for our shuttle to the hotel, we were approached by a Japanese tv program. They wanted to interview us to see why we came to Japan. As a result, sometime over the next month we will be featured on said program! It is so  exciting to know that many people in Japan will know about Shaler!

Tomorrow, we will begin our sightseeing tour around Tokyo. Please check back to see what Shaler students discover!
